2024-2033 Sustainable Destination Management Plan

We’ve created a plan to improve tourism in our region. It’s a nine-year Sustainable Destination Management Plan (SDMP) for the City of Ballarat and Pyrenees, Moorabool, Hepburn, and Golden Plains Shires.

This strategic plan is crucial for our region’s sustainable destination growth, prosperity, and development, ensuring we strike a balance between economic priorities and the social, environmental, and cultural aspects that make our region unique. With the implementation of the SDMP, we aim to ignite a stronger, more resilient visitor economy.

Planning for our local areas

Action plans have also been developed from the SDMP for the Ballarat, Pyrenees and Moorabool regions. Plans for Hepburn and Golden Plains have been combined with existing plans in those regions. Over the next nine years, we’ll work with councils to implement the actions that align with our goals.

Destination strategies

A destination strategy is like a roadmap for making a place more appealing to visitors. It’s all about setting goals and taking action to attract tourists, understand their needs, and make their stay unforgettable. These type of strategies can cover everything from promoting the location to improving facilities and involving the community. It’s about growing tourism, boosting the local economy, and creating amazing experiences for our guests. Each Tourism Midwest Victoria council area has existing destination strategies.
