Tourism Midwest Victoria is proud to announce that Ballarat has once again been named a finalist in the 2025 Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards, a recognition that reinforces the city’s reputation as one of the state’s most celebrated destinations.
After taking home the title at the inaugural awards in 2021 and again in 2023, Ballarat is back in contention in the Top Tourism Town category following a strong 2025 submission that showcased its rich heritage, creative spirit and ever-surprising visitor experiences.
An initiative of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), the annual awards celebrate towns that offer outstanding tourism experiences, collaborate across industries and foster a vibrant tourism economy that benefits local communities.
“Being named a finalist is a huge credit to the people who bring Ballarat’s story to life every day,” said Tourism Midwest Victoria Chair, Hon. John Pandazopoulos.
“It’s a huge pat on the back for all the attractions, accommodation providers, event organisers as well as the constantly growing list of cafes, bars, restaurants, breweries and distilleries that are creating new reasons to visit. Ballarat and Midwest Victoria’s energy is undeniable. This nomination recognises that spirit – and we now have the opportunity to bring the title back to our region,” he said.
Located just 90 minutes from Melbourne, Ballarat offers visitors a unique mix of gold rush history and modern creativity. From immersive experiences and events to a thriving culinary and laneway scene, the city continues to deliver on its promise to be brilliantly unexpected.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves said the recognition reflected the city’s unwavering passion and innovation within the local tourism sector.
“Ballarat is a city that’s constantly evolving – a place where you can connect with history one moment and discover a bold new street mural or hidden wine bar, the next.
“This finalist nod is fitting recognition of our people, businesses and creative minds that make Ballarat such a special place to live and a destination worth talking about – and visiting again and again,” she said.
Public voting opens Friday 6 June and runs until Friday 27 June.
Votes will contribute to each town’s final score and locals are encouraged to get behind Ballarat and show their support. To vote and learn more, visit: vtic.com.au/toptourismtown.
Winners will be announced at a gala ceremony in July.
